Sample letter/email to your Councillors

Below is a sample letter/email to be sent from you to your borough/district/city councillors, and also to your county councillors if relevant, urging them to ‘opt in’ to (i.e. to use) the Sustainable Communities Act.
1. The text below is a guide, please feel free to compose your own letters as they will be more effective.
2. Please urge other people to write too – friends, family, neighbours, colleagues etc. The more letters and emails councillors receive the better!
3. Use the tool here to find out who your councillors are and to contact them.
Dear Cllr [your councillor’s name],
Re: using the Sustainable Communities Act
As a local resident I am writing to you to ask you to please table a motion resolving to use the Sustainable Communities Act process by submitting proposals to central government each year for the next three years for action to protect and promote local sustainability.
The Act is great news for all of us locally. It has set up an exciting new ‘bottom-up’ process where we can drive central government actions and policy to protect and improve the local area – helping local shops, pubs, post offices and services that have declined so much in recent years – and create more sustainable communities.
I look forward to hearing from you.
And finally: Please send copies of any replies you receive to Local Works Campaign Co-ordinator, Steve Shaw, at steve@localworks.org or Local Works, c/o Unlock Democracy, 37 Gray's Inn Rd, London WC1X 8PQ
Thank you very much for your valuable help!
