Local Works Calls on Government to Open Act to Town and Parish Councils

Monday 13 August 2012

A new opportunity has arisen to promote more sustainable communities: Government is consulting on whether to allow Town and Parish Councils to submit proposals under the Sustainable Communities Act. You can view the consultation here.

We believe that Town and Parish councils should have the right to submit proposals under the Act. There is a great deal that parish and town councils could achieve with the Act and great potential beneftis for communities. It was also the explicit intention of the Sustainable Communities Act Amendment Act of 2010 to allow town and parish councils to use the Act.

We have submitted a response to the consultation calling on government to allow Town and Parish Councils to use the Sustainable Communities Act. You can view our consultation response here.

Please respond to the consultation and ask government to allow Town and Parish Councils to use the Act. You should send responses to: sca@communities.gsi.gov.uk

Please note the consultation closes on 5th September 2012.
