Action: Ask your Council to use the Sustainable Communities Act
Monday 20 August 2012
The Sustainable Communities Act is a great tool to help improve local communities. It is the only process that gives local people the power to drive the action central government takes to create local sustainability.
However, the Act will only help your area if your council chooses to use it. So...
ACTION: Please write to, or email, your councillors, asking them to 'Please pass a motion at council resolving to use the Sustainable Communities Act.' Please see here for a sample letter/e-mail you can use.
Please enclose this sample motion with your letter or email which they can use.
You can find the contact details of your councillors here, on your council's website, or by calling your council.
Thank you!
Once your council has done this, you can then put your own ideas forward. Your council has a duty to engage local people, not merely through consultation, but through trying to reach agreement together on what proposals for action will be submitted to central government.
